HPC News – The Hollywood Production Center is home to FOX’s The Following and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, and Kevin Williamson, the creator of both shows was recently featured in The Hollywood Reporter. Williamson spoke to them about movies that have scared him the most, which he said was The Exorcist when he was a kid, and now as an adult Hostile. In discussing the uprising trend of the horror genre, Williamson talked about the recent popularity of ‘found footage’ as seen in the Paranormal Activity franchise, while the young adult demographic has seen a rise in the theme of a post-apocalyptic world. Kevin Williamson’s horror background also includes working on the Scream franchise, as well I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The Hollywood Reporter crew came to the Hollywood Production Center and filmed the entire piece in our spacious conference room. The day also included a photo shoot focusing on Williamson’s recent success with The Following. The hit serial killer drama revolves around an ex-FBI agent (played by Kevin Bacon) who tries to track down a serial killer who escaped prison and is growing a huge cult following. The Following was reordered for a second season and has put out a teaser for their new season that is expected to premiere on January 20, 2014.

Xbox Entertainment’s First Unscripted Series

Xbox Entertainment's first unscripted television series will be working out of HPC. — Xbox Entertainment’s first unscripted television series will be working out of HPC.

HPC News – HPC has opened its doors to a new tenant Red Card Productions as they work on an unscripted series with Xbox Entertainment Studios, Every Street United. Each episode of Every Street United will be shot in a different country and will focus on one undiscovered local street soccer player. In a finale episode, they will feature each of the top players as they play a soccer match against each other at the ultimate soccer destination, the 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

Xbox’s original programming comes as the Xbox One console was unveiled in May and they announced their Halo-based drama series was to be produced by Steven Speilberg. Just as Halo will be based off of the wildly popular video game, Every Street United finds its base off of the popularity of sporting video games. Documentary filmmaker Jonathan Hock (ESPN’s 30 For 30) is attached to direct a portion of the series, which will be executive produced by Mike Tollin and Jon Weinbach.

The reality show is expected to be shot in countries such as Spain, Holland, France Argentina, Brazil, Ghana and South Korea. The show will also be featuring a global interactive component when it eventually airs on Xbox.

HPC News – HPC welcomes the team for How to Make Love Like an Englishman, an upcoming film starring Pierce Brosnan, Jessica Alba, Salma Hayek and Ben McKenzie. The movie is about a Cambridge University professor who finds a woman who is his ideal match, forcing him to reevaluate his life of hedonistic excess, which comes after he impregnates her grad student stepsister. The romantic comedy was written by Matthew Newman and will be directed by Tom Vaughan. Brosnan will star as the professor, Hayek as his love interest and Jessica Alba as the stepsister.

Production for How to Make Love Like an Englishman began earlier last month and Jessica Alba and Ben McKenzie were spotted this weekend in Malibu filming for the movie. The film takes place in Los Angeles, so the crew decided to keep filming local as they wrap up filming in early November. The project is a co-production between Palmstar Media Capital, Southpaw Entertainment, Irish Dreamtime and Envision.

HPC News – HPC is happy to once again welcome a fantastic upcoming film to its offices. Blumhouse Productions is preparing for the next big horror film, Incarnate. Incarnate will revolve around an unconventional exorcist who can tap into the subconscious of the possessed until he meets his match, a 9-year old boy possessed by a demon from his past. Aaron Eckhart is attached to star as the exorcist and Catalina Sandino Moreno was recently added to the project to star alongside him.

The film comes on the heels of Blumhouse’s Jason Blum’s latest successful horror project, Insidious: Chapter 2. Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions, has a long resume that includes Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Sinister among others. The company is known for its low-budget, high earning horror genre films that have received huge acclaim in the past couple of years. Jason Blum will act as producer and Brad Peyton will take the role of director on the script written by Ronnie Christensen. Production is set to start this month.

‘The Bridge’ Season Finale

Creative Casting has found its home at the Hollywood Production Center. Their resume is long and ever expanding, but one of their most recent projects is FX’s new romantic comedy pilot You’re the Worst. They also recently worked on a casting project for The Bridge, which premiered on FX earlier this summer.

The Bridge was a big project for Creative Casting, as it turned out to be a huge hit for summer television this year. The drama television series debuted in July and was already renewed for a second season to air in 2014. The Bridge is based on two police detectives who investigate a serial killer that is menacing the United States and Mexico with murders along the Texas-Chihuahua border. With over 3 million viewers on the series premiere date, this show truly boosted the summer television lineup. The season finale of The Bridge is set to air on Wednesday, October 2.

The Emmys this year brought together spectacular work in the television industry, and Da Vinci’s Demons was no exception. The Starz hit television drama was nominated this year for three categories: Outstanding Main Title Design, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role. Da Vinci’s Demons was ecstatic to take home two wins (Cinemax’s Banshee won Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role), and this momentum will carry them into their second season that is set to premiere in 2014.

Bear McCreary is the mastermind behind the Da Vinci’s Demons’ theme music, which he wanted to be sure spoke to the main character, Leonardo da Vinci. In true form, McCreary made the opening titles music a palindrome – it sounds the same whether you play it forward or backwards – which was in ode to da Vinci’s legendary backward writing. With such creative form, it is no wonder Da Vinci’s Demons took home the Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music award.

The CW will be joining the big networks in releasing their new and returning fall shows this October. Two big front runners for the network are The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, which are both set to premiere on Thursday, October 3.

The Vampire Diaries is a supernatural drama that delves into the world of vampires as we see what happens when the human world and the supernatural world mix. The show first premiered in 2009 and will be premiering its fifth season this October. Elena (Nina Dobrev) falls in love with the 163-year-old vampire Stefan (Paul Wesley) who refuses to drink human blood, a vegetarian by vampire standards. Stefan’s brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) also falls for Elena, which isn’t the worst of their problems when they find out one of Elena’s best friends is a witch and the other has been turned into a vampire.

The Originals is The CW’s newest vampire drama, and it is a spin-off of their hit series The Vampire Diaries. The Originals picks up with The Vampire Diaries’ Mikaelson siblings who are known in the supernatural world as the original vampires. The Original Family will be moving to New Orleans to continue to wreak havoc in the human world, while the egotistical brother Klaus works to take his place as king of the supernatural one. The Originals will premiere after The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, October 3 before moving to its regular Tuesday night time slot on October 8.

With the Fall Season Comes Fall TV

CBS, NBC and ABC will start their fall TV premieres this week, joining FOX that started last week and the CW that will start next week.

This week is kicking off with the majority of networks premiering their new television shows alongside their beloved returners. While Fox had its premiere week last week, the rest of the networks are just catching up. This week CBS, NBC and ABC joined in to round off the big 4 networks for fall television in 2013. The CW network will soon be joining in as well with their premieres starting on October 3rd and continuing into the next week.

What shows should you be looking forward to? If you’ve been up with TV thus far, you’ll understand just how exciting it is for CBS’ How I Met Your Mother to be back for its final season after the Mother was revealed to viewers during last season’s finale. Zooey Deschanel has made her way into everyone’s hearts as the “adorkable” girl in New Girl, and with the new budding romance with Nick, everyone will be tuning in to see if these lovebirds can make it. Other returners garnering buzz are The Big Bang Theory, Nashville and Parks and Recreation.

We know we’re ready to try a new show, and with that we can’t wait for the CW’s The Originals to air. The show is a spin-off of the hit show Vampire Diaries, and is a continuation of the lives of the original vampire family. The Originals is set to premiere Thursday, October 3.

The Hollywood Production Center is hosting the 2nd Annual Food Truck Festival this Tuesday, September 24 at HPC 1 in Hollywood.

The Food Truck Festival will take place tomorrow, Tuesday September 24 at the flagship Hollywood location, Hollywood Production Center 1. The event will feature various food trucks that will set up and be ready to serve you for your every lunchtime craving. Enjoy a delicious sandwich from The Grilled Cheese Truck, a wild meal from The Hurricane Kitchen or grab an ice cream from King Kone to cool you down. All the trucks will be stationed on the HPC lot, which is located at 1149 N. Gower St. in Hollywood, just off of Hollywood Blvd. This event is open to our building as well as the surrounding community, so come out and enjoy a delightful lunch with us!

Hollywood – The much awaited event of the season, the Emmy’s, will take place on Sunday, September 22 at 8pm. This year will mark the 65^th year for the Emmy’s, and with host Neil Patrick Harris they have not missed a beat. The multi-Grammy Award winner Elton John who earlier this week performed at the University of Southern California (USC) will be performing on the Primetime Emmy Awards stage.

The Hollywood Reporter has kicked off Emmy festivities with its Nominees Night on Thursday, September 19 at the Garden Terrace of Soho House in West Hollywood. Showrunners, actors and executives alike joined to celebrate the imminent event with both excitement and anxiousness. Tina Fey, Aaron Sorkin, Vince Gilligan and Matthew Weiner were among the talent there.

The categories span across various genres, comedy, drama, miniseries/movie, variety/music and reality, and within each genre there are three to nine categories. There has been a lot of talk surrounding these nominations and who deserves to win, but it will not be decided until Sunday. Front runners with various nominations in multiple categories is Homeland, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey and House of Cards to name just a few.

“Welcome to Me” is a Hit at TIFF

Hollywood Production Center has recently been home to the production studio working on the much awaited film Welcome to Me starring Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell. The movie was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival that kicked off earlier last week. The 11-day-long festival has screened various movies full of potential, and Welcome to Me is no exception. D Films has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to Welcome to Me soon after its screening at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The dramatic comedy examines society’s obsession with fame through Kristen Wiig’s character who has a dissociative personality disorder, and soon after winning the lottery she spends all her money on a talk show about herself. The cast also includes Will Ferrell, Linda Cardellini, Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack.

The movie is produced by Gary Sanchez Productions, for who Will Ferrell is a producer for on this project as well. Shira Piven directed the film that was based on Eliot Laurence’s screenplay. The film has no set release date in Canada or the United States.

Pop Up! Concert Series in Glendale

Glendale Arts is hosting Pop Up!, an outdoor concert series throughout the month of September.

Downtown Glendale – Glendale keeps the summer month going strong by hosting the Glendale Art’s Pop Up! Concert series this month. Pop Up! is a month long event that brings in different musical talent every Thursday night during the month of September. The free outdoor concerts take place at the Glendale City Center and each week they bring out a different restaurant to provide appetizers, such as BJ’s, Olive Garden and California Pizza Kitchen.

The concerts kicked off on September 5^th when crowds listened to some great music by Sean Wiggins and Lone Goat. This week, crowds gathered around to listen to Rock Bottom Betty play fantastic music. The series will continue on for the next two weeks, with the next concert taking place Thursday, September 19, featuring Shane Henry. The month long concerts will come to an end on September 26 with The Essentials playing for Glendale.

The event is absolutely free and has been a great way for the Glendale Arts to stay involved in the community as their current project is underway. The Glendale Arts have been behind the Alex Theatre renovation project that started earlier this summer. The expansion project is set to finish in November when they will have a grand re-opening.

Burn Notice Leaves its Mark

Burn Notice series finale airs on Thursday, September 12.

TVM Productions, operating under the umbrella of Fox Television Studios, continues work on its highly successful series Burn Notice. USA Network’s hit cable television show premiered its 7^th and final season earlier this summer on June 6^th. Along with celebrating their final season, Burn Notice celebrated its 100th episode on June 13, the second episode of the season. The series finale is scheduled to air on Thursday, September 12.

The series first premiered in 2007, and they have since enjoyed their 7 years of filming. TVM Productions has received critical praise for the television show, which follows an ex-CIA agent who has been ‘burned’ by his former employer. TVM Productions has worked on the successful show for several seasons and has a wealth of television credits to its name.

The Burbank International Film Festival is back in Burbank for its 5^th year. The festival kicks off in downtown Burbank on Wednesday, September 4 and continues through Sunday, September 8. The first night’s festivities will take place at the Warner Bros. lot for Opening Night as they celebrate their 90^th Anniversary. To commemorate 90 years of history, they will be screening their documentary film, The Brothers Warner.

The prestigious film festival represents talent from around the world as filmmakers present their work across various genres. The 5-day film festival will feature over 70 independent films, and will specially honor films with socially conscious themes. The festival has received over 600 film submissions in the past and the 15-person jury panel goes through each one carefully. In addition to exciting events and panels, the Burbank International Film Festival has set itself apart by offering film distribution seminars to help filmmakers gain a profit from all of their hard work. The festival will conclude with a Closing Night Awards Gala where they will acknowledge the award-winning filmmakers, as well as honor the industry icons and professionals that have shaped and defined the world of cinema today.

‘R&B Divas: Los Angeles’ Reunion Special

Hollywood Production Center would like to congratulate Field Legend Productions for production of the R&B Divas: Los Angeles Reunion special. The series premiered on Wednesday, July 10 on TV One. The reality television show chronicles the lives of R&B singers Cynthia “Lil’ Mo” Loving, Chante Moore, Kelly Price, Claudette Ortiz, Michel’le Toussaint and Dawn Robinson as they share their musical careers and personal lives with America.

TV One ordered an eight-episode season, with the season finale scheduled for Wednesday, August 28. Part 1 of the Two Part R&B Divas: LA Reunion special will air on Wednesday, September 4. The talk show queen Wendy Williams is the reunion’s special celebrity host.

R&B Divas: Los Angeles is spin-off from the original show R&B Divas: Atlanta, which was wildly successful on TV One. The series premiered on August 20, 2012, and was brought back for a second season, which concluded on July 10, 2013.

‘Larrymania’ is Back for its 2nd Season

Larrymania premiered its second season on Sunday, August 18 at 9pm on mun2.

Hollywood Production Center would like to congratulate Cinemat for beginning production of their second season of Larrymania. Mun2’s #1 Hispanic celebrity reality series revolves around the fast-paced life of international superstar Larry Hernandez and captures even more of the intensely demanding and chaotic life of the singer/songwriter who balances his roles of father, son, partner, and ultra-busy celebrity life, all while the cameras are rolling.

The reality television show premiered its second season on Sunday, August 18 at 9pm on mun2 and will continue into the fall season. The show has gained large popularity from Larry’s fans and continues to grow in followers. Larry Hernandez is an American Regional Mexican singer, musician, composer, and now television star. Larry Hernandez is one of the most recognized faces in the regional Mexican music genre. His many awards and recognitions include three prestigious Latin Billboard Awards in the last three years, and last year’s Premio lo Nuestro award for Regional Mexican Banda Artist of the Year.

Larrymania is produced by Cinemat and Executive Produced by Gloria Medel Solomons for mun2. The series is an original mun2 production, and airs with English language subtitles.

The Hollywood Production Center is proud to announce that their very own “The Chase” premiered its new game show last night on the Game Show Network. “The Chase” is a one-hour quiz show based on the British version that has 3-player-teams to earn as much money as possible by answering rapid-fire quiz questions. The contestants have added pressure because of The Beast, the quiz genius that must answer as many quiz questions as he can to deter the teams from banking their money. By the end of the game, it becomes a one-on-one quiz competition between the highest scoring contestant and The Beast himself. The reward of outwitting The Beast is that they get to go home with their bank of money.

The show premiered on Tuesday, August 6 at 9PM and brought in 511,000 viewers. A second new show premiered at 10PM and captivated 461,000 viewers. The show’s set schedule is Tuesdays at 9PM on GSN.

Actress and television host Brooke Burns is the host of this exciting game show. The Beast is Mark Labbett, and this quiz genius is also the veteran from the original U.K. version. While the show just premiered this week, GSN announced last month that they have ordered another 8 episodes for a second season. The show is produced by ITV Studios America.

“The Originals” are the New Vampires in Town

"The Originals" is a new television series that is based on The CW's "Vampire Diaries." — “The Originals” is a new television series that is based on The CW’s “Vampire Diaries.”

The Hollywood Production Center is once again proud to house a new television series. “The Originals” will be airing on The CW Television Network for its fall 2013 season. The supernatural show is a spin-off of The CW’s popular television series, “The Vampire Diaries.” “The Originals” will take place in New Orleans and is centered around the Mikaelson siblings, the Original vampires in the vampire world. This dangerous and seemingly unstoppable family of vampires has their own agenda when it comes to surviving in a supernatural world, and they take to Louisiana to sort it out.

Julie Plec is the executive producer on “The Vampuire Diaries” and will take on the same position on “The Originals.” Julie presented her backdoor pilot on the April 25^th episode of “The Vampire Diaries” and it will serve as the jumping point for the real pilot that will air in the fall. While “The Originals” is a spin-off, it is also meant to feel like a new series that people who haven’t already been following the gang of vampires can jump right in and start watching.

“The Vampire Diaries” first premiered in 2009 and just completed its fourth season in 2013. The fifth season is set to air in fall 2013. 'Tailchaser's Song' will begin production later this year. — ‘Tailchaser’s Song’ will begin production later this year.

Glendale Tenant News – Hollywood Production Center is proud to announce that their very own IDA, Inc. will be working on the new animated feature film, ‘Tailchaser’s Song.’

IDA, Animetropolis and EFG-Renascence recently announced at the Cannes Film Festival that they will be teaming up to animate the feature film, ‘Tailchaser’s Song.’ The stereoscopic 3D CG-animated family film will begin production later this year. The director of ‘Rise of the Guardians’ (2012), Peter Ramsey, will be joining the team as Executive Producer, along with the author of this fantasy-adventure novel, Tad Williams, as Co-Executive Producer.

‘Tailchaser’s Song’ is an adaptation of Tad Williams’ acclaimed bestselling novel of the same name. ‘Tailchaser’s Song’ was the first novel this fantasy and science-fiction author had written, first published in 1985. This story follows the adventures of a tom cat, Fritti Tailchaser, as he journeys to find his missing friend. Williams’ ‘Otherland’ series was optioned by Warner Brothers last year.

IDA, Inc. has offices in Los Angeles and Japan. They were the first Japanese studio to be nominated for a Visual Effects Society Award for animation.

Offices open for production staff looking for extra space or a spot closer to home.While nearly a million square feet of office space sit vacant in the city, Amidi Real Estate Group has just finished renovating a Glendale building that sat vacant for the past five years with plans to reopen it Wednesday.The Los Angles-based group, which owns the Hollywood Production Center, will reopen the building at 121 W. Lexington Drive for short-term leases by video production support staff who are crowded at their home offices or who need a place closer to home, said general manager Lucy Mardonovich.”We had an asset that wasn’t being used so we just decided to do something with it since the Hollywood office was so successful,” Mardonovich said. “We felt there would be great energy for city of Glendale to have. Disney and DreamWorks are expanding and those valley production companies need to have something nearby.”

Amidi also owns the Glendale Office Center and the Brand Jewelry Mart, she said.Dubbed the Hollywood Production Center-Glendale, offices come with furniture, high-speed Internet, phones and other amenities. They will only lease space to the creative people who work on video production, she said.”It’s an absolutely total remodel,” she said. “Every floor’s been gutted and separated into the offices.

Production center opens downtown building targeting entertainment industry clients.

DOWNTOWN — The Hollywood Production Center celebrated the opening of its newest office building Thursday, even as it enters a market with low demand and more than 1 million square feet of empty downtown work space.

Hollywood Production Center, which owns a property in Hollywood and another downtown, hopes its new 70,000-square-foot building on the corner of Broadway and Louise Street will draw tenants as a space for entertainment-industry workers or individual entrepreneurs who are not interested in conventional offices.

The center’s open lobby, with curvy suede arm chairs and blue accent walls, leads directly to individual offices and suites, giving tenants the opportunity to mix and network, said Lucy Mardonovich, the company’s general manager.

But while Hollywood Production Center has historically succeeded in drawing entertainment-industry tenants with flexible leases and stylized work spaces, the company did not start the project expecting to be opening during a recession, Mardonovich said.
